Fok Ying Tung Foundation

Dr. Henry Fok Ying Tung, a well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist in Hong Kong, was one of the earliest Overseas Chinese who supported and participated in China's Reform and Opening. He had a vision for a developed and modern China. With this foresight, Dr Fok devoted efforts in modernizing China and contributed generously to the development of Inland China.

The 'Fok Ying Tung Foundation' was set up in 1977 for this very purpose. Over the past 25 years, Dr Fok, through his Foundation, donated more than HK$6 billion, in support of various development programs in China, particularly in education, health care, sports, science and culture, and other areas of need.

In the early 1980s, Dr Fok had a vision to develop Nansha, a small town on the western bank of the Pearl River mouth, which incidentally is also the geographic center of the Pearl River Delta, into a modern city to collaborate with Hong Kong. He hoped that in so doing, it would enhance the economic prosperity, particularly on the western banks of the Pearl River Delta. Thus, in February 1984, Dr Fok, through the Fok Ying Tung Foundation, commenced the creation and development of such a city, paying special attention to:

"I will not do business in my homeland. I will not take a single cent from it. My investments and donations here are meant to boost the economy and make the nation wealthy and strong."
Dr. Henry Fok.

Dr Henry Fok's endearing efforts and tireless dedication of the past 25 years are summarized below.
